Roan lawmaker Chishimba Kambwili has kept his promise of exposing corrupt activities in the Ministry of Health.
A fortnight ago, Kambwili said he would expose the alleged corrupt activities in the Ministry of Health. This was after a wrangle with Dr Chitalu Chilufya over the point of order he raised in Parliament on health personnel transfers.
Kambwili meant what he said and yesterday he questioned the purchase of ambulances by the Ministry of Health at a cost of US$ 288, 000.
And Kambwili says by the time President Lungu’s term comes to an end Zambia will be bankrupt because he and his lieutenants are stealing state resources with impunity.
Briefing the press in Lusaka, Kambwili said there was massive corruption in the procurement of ambulances by Dr Chilufya’s led Ministry of Health.
Kambwili argued that there is no way that an ambulance that is supposed to be purchased at US$ 70 000 can be bought at US$ 288 000
“For the past two weeks, I have not been talking about corruption. I was hoping that our friends in government would change. I have not even talked about the purchase of ambulances by the Ministry of Health at the cost of US$ 288 000. For your own information, a Land cruiser hardtrop from Toyota Zambia cost US$ 60, 000. Now if you look at the thing in those ambulance they have bought from Savenda at US$ 288, 000, there is only a small shelf, bed and bench for paramedics. If you add up the cost of the items I have mention, they can’t exceeded US$ 5,000. Meaning, an ambulance to the most, can cost US$ 70,000.” Kambwili said.
