United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema says the Patriotic Front(PF) Government’s move to award Grandville International a contract to supply fertilizer at the price of K90 million sticks corruption.
Briefing the press at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka, Hichilema said it is unacceptable for the PF Government to award a K90 million worth contract to a questionable company like Grandville International.
He said there was no merit in awarding the fertilizer contact to Grandville because the owner of the firm, Bokani Soko is a very close associate of President Edgar Lungu.
Soko is at the Centre of the fire tender controversy having won the US $42 million contract.
” We have been informed that Grandville International, a firm linked to Bokani Soko, a lawyer and close friend of (President) Lungu has been given another contract of supplying fertilizer. The deal is worth K90 million. But you see fertilizer is on global market so you can easily google. The price has been inflated. It is another daylight robbery by this PF regime,” Hichilema said.
Making a disclosure, dismissed Roan Member of Parliament Chishimba Kambwili said the awarding of fertilizer contract to Soko’s Grandville International was very dubious.
He said it is unfortunate that the contract was given to Granville International which has no experience in supplying agriculture products.
” There was another company which bid K50 million but they chose Grandville International at US K90 million.
