President Edgar Chagwa Lungu should tone down on his globetrotting because his continued international trips is raping the Zambian economy, Charles Chanda has charged.
According to Governance Activist, Gregory Chifire, President Lungu has been to 47 different countries since he was elected in 2015, putting him the most traveled President in the world within that space of time.
Chanda who is United Prosperous and Peaceful Zambia (UPPZ) leader wondered whether President Lungu’s foreign trips are budgeted for.
He said with the large entourage he carries along and the fact that he charters expensive private Jets, President Lungu is putting pressure on the state coffers.
He said just one trip of a President can build a fortune.
“Are those trips budgeted for? Do you know that just one trip of the President can build over 400 boreholes? If the President delegates a Minister to represent him at an international event, it means the country has saved money for 400 boreholes. There is no water in Kanyama Compound so that money can build boreholes for the affected residents,” Chanda said
And the opposition leader says Finance Minister Felix Mutati’s budget is meaningless without fiscal discipline.
He said President Lungu should stop aimless gallivanting and other unnecessary expenditure must be avoided to recover money for economic progress.
