Wanna Chiyanga is just a fraudster who has been paid to taint my image, cries United Party for National Development (UPND) 2016 candidate Evaristo Mwalilino, as he denies selling Hakainde Hichilema’s 12, 996 Kalulushi Constituency votes to Information Minister Kampampa Mulenga.
But Chiyanga insists Mwalilino was used by the PF to rig Hichilema’s elections in Kalulushi Constituency.
Mwalilino who had a torrid time dispelling allegations that he was part of the election rigging syndicate in Kalulushi Constituency on Prime TV’s Oxygen of Democracy programme, said Chiyanga has just been hired to pour mud on his political career.
Asked by presenter Kalani Muchima whether Chiyanga worked for him as a driver, Mwalilino admitted knowing Chiyanga as one of the members of his community but said he had never employed him as a driver.
He said all he knows about Chiyanga is that he is a fraudster who was recently released from jail for stealing computers.
“He is just a fraudster with no fix aboard and leaves a life of begging. He was recently released from prison for stealing computers,” he alleged.
Asked whether he really stole Hichilema’s votes, Mwalilino vehemently denied the allegation, saying there is no way that he could sell his hard-earned victory when he has always wanted to represent the people in his community.
Mwalilino said he put in a lot of money in the campaigns so there was no way that he could sell his victory at K21000.
He said he loves the party and its president Hakainde Hichilema very much that he cannot betray them.
“How can I sell votes for K21000 when I spent about K175 000 in the campaigns. Is there logic in that. I have always wanted to represent the people of Kalulushi Constituency because I have a passion for them. So how can I sell my victory to Kampampa. How can I sink so low to do such a thing,” Mwalilino denied, “Election is a system which involves a lot of players.”
Asked whether the signature that was appearing on the alleged contract between him and Kampampa was his, Mwalilino responded in the positive but insisted that his signature was scanned and placed on a forged document.
On whether he received money at any point from Mulenga, former President Rupiah Banda and axed PF Deputy Chairperson for Elections Kelvin Bwalya Fube(KBF)
Mwalilino said: “I have never seen KBF in my life before and the last time I saw President Banda is when he came for a funeral in Kitwe.”
And on whether he would sue Chiyanga since he has challenged him to do so, Mwalilino said there is nothing that he could gain from suing a poor person like Chiyanga.
The 2016 losing candidate said he understands that it is poverty that dragged Chiyanga to make such allegations.
He however, said the Inspector General of Police should take interest in the case because Chiyanga is alarming the nation and his conduct may likely breach public peace.
When reminded that the police act on complaints and in the absence of a complainant they cannot move, Mwalilino insisted that he would not waste time on an attention seekers like Chiyanga.
But when he phoned in on the programme, Chiyanga insisted that Mwalilino sold Hichilema’s votes to Kampampa.
He said Mwalilino was lying that he(Chiyanga) has never been his driver.
Chiyanga said he witnessed all the payments that were made to Mwalilino in exchange with Hichilema’s votes.
” The first payment was made by Kampampa, the second one was made by Rupiah Banda while the third was paid by KBF in a black plastic bag. If you are denying, then sue me I am ready to face you because I have evidence. You sold the votes to the Kampampa, a Lusaka Minister…I can’t call her Information and Broadcasting Minister because she just stole the election,” Chiyanga said.
He further accused both Kampampa and Mwalilino of forging grade 12 certificates.
