UPP Wants Answers From Police on Invoked Article 31

The United Progressive People(UPP) wants the Zambia Police Service to give  the status of the Threatened State of Emergency.

UPP National Spokesperson Philip Matavu demand a comprehensive report on what has been obtaining on the ground since President Lungu moved in to act and invoke article 31 of the National Constitution and when it is coming to an end.

“The Ministry  of Home Affairs  should shed more light on what has during the period of  Threatened State of Emergency. The people of Zambia of  deserve to know whether the Threatened State of Emergency is still in effect and when will it come end. We demand answers to this,”  he said.

And Matavu said UPP insists that the office of the Director of Public Prosecution(DPP) is not independent.

“We in UPP still maintains that as long as   appointments are done by one person with more powers, the three arms of government can not operate freely. We are amazed  by    statement issued by the justice minister saying all  the recent nolle prosqua were done independently and professionally.

We challenge him to explain to the Zambian people what makes the office of the DPP different from other government  institutions that are controlled by those in the corridors of power,” Matavu asked.
