Mukuni’s behaviour disappointing -Sakala

By Jessie Zimba.

Zambia Direct Democracy Movement(ZDDM) president Edwin Sakala says Chief Mukuni’s behavior is dissapointing.

Sakala says it is sad that respected Chiefs like Mukuni of the Toka Leya in Southern Province have become party cadres.

Chief Mukuni has gone out flat out attacking Government over  incarcerated United Party for National Development (UPND) president Hakainde Hichilema following his treason charge which both international and local political pundit say is politically motivated.

Chief Mukuni’s support for the opposition UPND has not sat too well with the authorities who have accused him of master minding economic and gutting public property.

Home Affairs Minister Steven Kampyongo went a step in threatening to arrest Chief Mukuni.

However, Chief Mukuni played down Kampyongo’s claims, saying he is not afraid of Jail as he has slept at the graveyard before he was initiated as Chief of the Toka Leya people.

When reached for a comment, Sakala said it is unfortunate that  Chief Mukuni is coming out both tribal and partisan.

He said Mukuni’s behavior is very worrisome.

“He(Chief Mukuni) is taking sides but he shouldn’t because he is supposed to speak for everyone irrespective of the political party they belong to,” he said

Sakala said the tug-of-war between Chief Mukuni and the Home Affairs Minister is not healthy, considering that the country is in a healing process following sporadic gutting of public property.

” Chief Mukuni is not supposed to quarrel with Kampyongo. Kampyongo is more like a son to him. The problem is that Chief Mukuni is very political and very much UPND, ” Sakala observed.

For Sakala not to remain befittingly inconsequential that he is had to try to portray a stature of being reasonable while not. A son has to employ tact with respect when dealing with a father and not be one to instigate a quarrel, thus politicians like Kampyongo and Sakala must give due respect when dealing with issues that involve our chiefs! Sakala should have addressed advice to Kampyongo on how to handle chiefs tactfully once found wanting.

TACT: Try revising the very last observation paragraph attributed to Sakala and substitute where it says “Chief Mukuni” with “Kampyongo” and vice versa, then ‘son’ with ‘father’ and ‘UPND’ with ‘partisan.’
