Development should not come with a burden of a debt, says Movement for National Transformation (MNT) leader Daniel Mvula Shimunza.
Shimunza is unhappy that Zambia’s external debt was invested in the non productive areas of the economy.
Appearing on Joy FM program Ubuyantanshi anchored by Elvis Mwansa, Shimunza said the Patrotic Front(PF) was on a marathon to build roads and infrastrure hence ended up acquiring a huge debt which continue to haunt the Zambian people to this date.
The opposition leader said in places where roads have been sufficiently done people are still very poor and the debt continue knocking on the door. “Muchende umo bakula imisebo abantu baçhilibalechula,” he said Ioosely translated as( in places where they built roads people are still suffering).
Shimunza said borrowed money is supposed to be channeled in productive areas of the economy such as Agriculture.
Minister of Finance
Felix Mutati told Parliament that Zambia’s external debt was 17 billion dollars but was later corrected that it was 7.2 billion by his officers.
