I can’t fight the Catholics, says Mumbi Phiri

Mumbi Phiri refuses to respond to the Catholic Church “PF agent” talk

Patriotic Front (PF) Deputy Secretary General Mumbi Phiri has refused to argue with the Zambia Catholic’s Bishops Conference (ZCBC) president Archbishop of Lusaka Telesphore Mpundu following his remark that she is a PF agent.

Speaking during a PF Media Interactive Forum, Phiri said she cannot go into war of words with Archbishop Mpundu because he is her spiritual father.

The PF deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said if Archbishop Mpundu sees her as a PF agent, so be it.

Phiri said in her case, there are people that she perceives to be mad on face value, when in the actual fact they are sane people holding credible positions in society.

“ Archbishop Telesphore Mpundu specifically called me a PF agent but my take on that is that I cannot go into confrontations with His grace because he is my spiritual father,” she said, adding” If he sees me as a PF agent so be it.  I cannot start exchanging words with him. Even me there are people l perceive to be mad because of what they are wearing but in the actual fact they are just sane and holding powerful positions in life.”

Meanwhile, Phiri opened old wounds when she said violence of pangas and machete wielding left with former PF Secretary General Wynter Kabimba when he was fired by late President Michael Chilufya Sata.

She said the PF has been peaceful since Kabimba left the party to form his Rainbow Party.

The former Munali lawmaker regretted that that some fat people(referring to UPND vice president Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba and small people(denoting  Kabimba) were power hungry and in  puissant of  their selfish ambitions, injured so many people as they resorted to violence.

And on the PF General Conference scheduled for 2020, Phiri clarified that anyone wishing to contest the PF presidency is at liberty to do so.

  • She said the party has just stated that it is happy with President Lungu and would want him to be the 2021 presidential candidate.
