Cop Appears For Manslaughter

The police officer accused of killing a colleague at the Chongwe checkpoint barrier near the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport roundabout yesterday appeared for mention in the Lusaka magistrate’s court.
Clifford Mukonka, 47, an inspector, is charged with one count of manslaughter.
Mukonka is alleged to have, on October 25, 2016, negligently caused the death of Geoffrey Banda, a fellow police officer from Eastern Province who was on duty.
Particulars are that Mukonka allegedly shot Mr Banda, who died on the spot and wounded two other officers who had accompanied Mr Banda from the Eastern Province.
It is alleged that Mukonka shot his fellow officers after receiving information that heavily armed criminals were on their way to Lusaka from Chipata.
