Maxwell, 12 Other PF Cadres Out On Bail

MAX-Chongo-prison-701x394Police have released PF cadre Maxwell Chongu and his accomplices barely two days after President Edgar Lungu was declared winner of the just ended election.

Chongu and 12 others were arrested a week before elections in Petauke for attacking an independent candidate Emmanuel Jay Banda.

They fired guns at Banda’s house and attempted to evade police, but were apprehended before offensive weapons were retrieved from their possession.

When they appeared yesterday before Petauke magistrate Webby Chanda for mention, Max and his colleagues were granted bail amounting to K5,000 each with two working sureties.

The matter was then adjourned to August 26 for continuation of hearing.

Chanda warned the PF cadres not to do anything that would force the court to revoke the bail.

In a related development, magistrate Chanda also adjourned the case in which Patriotic Front Kaumbwe constituency youth chairman January Banda is accused of damaging a Mitsubishi Canter registration number BAD 2490 belonging to the MMD during campaigns in Kaumbwe constituency on June 26.
