Bandits Kill Police Officer, Snatch K200,000

A POLICE officer has been shot dead by suspected criminals in an aggravated robbery.

Police Spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has confirmed the development in Lusaka today.

Hamoonga says the robbery which occurred today between 09:00hrs and 10:00hts happened along Lunzia Road, off Addis Ababa Road.

“Facts of this incident are that the deceased was in the company of another officer in a cash transit vehicle which was collecting cast from various filling stations enroute to their head office along great east road after which their motor vehicle was hit from behind by a Toyota Noah and later stopped,” Hamoonga says.

“When they stopped and got out of the cash transit vehicle to check what had happened, another motor vehicle a Toyota corolla approached the scene and the occupants of this motor vehicle came out and started firing indiscriminately thereby shooting Constable Pyshias Ntulukila in the abdomen.”

He says the constable was later rushed to care for business hospital where he later died.

And Hamoonga says the Toyota Noah was reported stolen vehicle yesterday around 23:00hrs in Lusaka’s Makeni east area.

The police have since launched a manhunt for the criminals who are reported to have also snatched cash amounting to over K200,000.

“We would like to warn these criminals that as police, when you attack one of our police officers whilst on duty, you have attacked the entire police,” says Hamoonga.

He says police shall not leave any stone unturned in bringing these criminals to book as the department will employ all legal means at its disposal.

He has also appealed to members of the public who may have information to report to the nearest police station so that the criminals can face the full wrath of the law.
